IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!
UPDATE OF – NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR RECALL -
Dear Customer,
As you know we have discovered a quality issue on the O-ring assembled on the Nemo Air quick connector.
Under certain circumstances the O-ring can fail and consequently Nemo Air may start leaking through the Quick Connector. As a result, there is a continuous, albeit slow, loss of breathing gas. This situation could potentially lead to an accident, hence Mares has decided to issue a product recall.
The solution indicated was to substitute the existing O-ring with a new one of different material and hardness.
Even if above solution is already improving Nemo Air Quick Connector performance, we further investigated in order to obtain the maximum performance and reliability and we have found that, in severe conditions, even with the new O-ring NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR was leaking.
We have therefore designed a NEW NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY FEMALE (code 44200829) featuring a new seal and seat. This solution is fully satisfactory.
We ask you therefore TO REPLACE the mentioned QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY FEMALE with the new one.
NONETHELESS FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY AND TO AVOID POSSIBLE DANGEROUS ACCIDENTS: STOP DIVING WITH A QUICK CONNECTOR SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL UNTIL THIS IS NOT REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH THE NEW ONE.
• Affected products and codes are:
1. Finished goods
414158 – DIVE COMPUTER NEMO AIR
414159 – DIVE COMPUTER NEMO AIR W/COMPASS NO
2. Spare parts
44200771 – HP HOSE W/QUICK CONNECTOR NEMO AIR
44200770 – QUICK CONNECTOR ASSY. FEMALE NEMO AIR
PLEASE CONTACT THE NEAREST AUTHORIZED MARES SERVICE CENTER TO SCHEDULE THE REPLACEMENT OF YOUR NEMO AIR QUICK CONNECTOR.

NEMO WIDE: the best interface between man and sea is now available with two new functions!!

• Wide display with superior
readability
• Ergonomic design and intuitive
interface
• Upgradeable software
Nemo Wide was designed to be easy-to-read, intuitive to use, safe, and reliable. A large size display was one of the primary requirements behind its creation. In order to optimize readability in every circumstance, special attention was paid to the size and brightness of digits, to the backlight intensity and to maximizing the viewing angle.
With Nemo Wide Upgrade 3.0 (3 gas algorithm) is avaialble to download from our web site (download/computer)and allows you to use up to three different Nitrox mixes during the dive (including air):
• Bottom mix (21-50%)
• Travel mix (21-99%)
• Deco mix (21-99%)
You must define the mixes in the dive computer prior to beginning the dive. You’ll be able to set the oxygen concentration and maximum oxygen partial pressure (ppO2max) for each mix individually, for maximum flexibility to suit your dive style.
During the dive Nemo Wide will suggest when you ought to switch to a different gas, and all you have to do is push one button to confirm. Nemo Wide will immediately recalculate your decompression based on the new information.
And … if you already own a Nemo Wide you can simply upgrade your dive computer by downloading the new firmware from our web site, then installing it via Mares Drak and you’ll immediately have this function available.
The other function available with the new firmware is Stopwatch in bottom time mode. The upgrade adds a stopwatch function when Nemo Wide is in Bottom Time mode.
Do you wish to be a cut above the rest? Once more with MARES it is possible … Enjoy pure perfection …

… Mares created the first regulator made of carbon fiber? Carbon 42, the regulator second stage is made using the new SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) technology that makes it possible to manufacture carbon fiber components in complex shapes. The SMC technology is also used to mould components used in the Aerospace and Formula 1 automotive industry. The materials used to create the special carbon composite of the Carbon 42 second stage ensure a high level of mechanical resistance by maintaining physical, chemical, and thermal properties, even after prolonged exposure to high temperature and when used in corrosive environments.
Besides being an incredibly durable material, Carbon 42 is also an exceptional conductor of heat. This characteristic reduces the temperature drop, thereby reducing the chance of icing, which makes it suitable for dives in especially cold water! But that’s not all! The second stage case is 65% lighter than the same version in metal and more than 30% lighter than one made in technopolymer. Advanced technology, unbeatable reliability and extremely lightweight … now, all you need is JUST ADD WATER!

Color My Dive World
Color my dive world
• TFT LCD color display.
• Two dive mode options, Extended and Profile
• Stores images and dive site maps.
ICON HD is a true full-color display computer. The screen is made using LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) with TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology.
An intuitive software, the use of large characters, and the contrast created by using different colors, makes the on-screen information easy to read, immediate and clear.
During the dive besides the standard display mode EXTENDED, divers can switch to a second dive mode called PROFILE, in which ICON HD processes and shows the full dive profile in real time. The computer’s memory allows the storage of images and photos, including digital maps of diving spots.
ICON HD is already available! Air integration upgrade will be available from spring 2010.

PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops) optimizes your dive in complete security. The PDIS option calculates an intermediate stop based on how much nitrogen uptake your body has endured, taking into account your current dive, previous dives and breathing mixes. This proposed stop allows you to reduce on gassing and slowly release nitrogen while you continue cruising along and enjoy your dive. PDIS is a unique scientific application from UWATEC, for safer, more optimized diving in both the recreational and technical arena.
Clear text, multi-language alarms. All alerts and alarms are displayed in clear text on the large dotmatrix display. For example, if the diver is ascending too fast, Galileo will display “ASCENT TOO FAST!”
Text alerts are shown in one of the 6 pre-loaded languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch, more will be available through downloads) and supplemented by visual and audible warnings.
User friendly. This multi-language feature is also used for all interface elements, such as menu items. This, coupled with Galileo’s extreme user friendliness, translates to an advanced dive computer that is as easy to use as a cell phone.
Graphic data display. Galileo also offers a bar-graph representation of the tissue loading and of oxygen toxicity levels. The graphic possibilities extend to displaying the dive profile on screen during the dive; if decompression or MB level stops are needed, Galileo will display their depth and duration in the profile.
Personalization. The diver can input his personal information (name, certification numbers) and also emergency contact, medical (such as allergies) and dive insurance information into Galileo; in case of an accident the emergency information is displayed at the touch of a button.
An exclusive UWATEC achievement: the option to update Galileo’s firmware through the infrared interface.
You can download upgrade packages over the Internet to get new features and new languages. The NEW free Apnea package is available on our web site–for Galileo only–and at no cost. SmartTRAK is also used to customize Galileo’s settings and display all dive related information. Galileo’s memory chip can hold over 100 hours of dive profile data and 100 bitmap images as a wreck map the diver can use to orient himself.
User replaceable battery & depth rating: Thanks to its oil-filled electronics compartment, Galileo is rated to a maximum depth of 330 meters (per EN13319 standards), while the battery is contained in an airfilled housing allowing the diver to easily change it if necessary.
LUNA can be upgraded with 2 additional features—available as optional purchases at your Authorized SCUBAPRO UWATEC dealer, these two features can be added quickly via our special site: galileo.uwatec.com.
• Predictive Multi-Gas upgrade: Purchasing this PMG feature at a later time, or whenever you need it, allows LUNA to use up to 3 Nitrox mixes (21-100% O2) during the dive, calculating the ascent schedule for all possible combinations of the programmed mixes. The outcome of the different decompression calculations can be shown on the screen in a dedicated deco summary screen.
• Heart Rate Monitor upgrade: Galileo’s heart rate monitor, jointly developed with Polar (world leader in the field of heart rate monitors), not only measures and records the heartbeat during the dive but allows the dive computer to factor the intensity of the exercise into the decompression calculation, as it is reported by the diver’s physiology. The HRM is also ideal for Apnea divers, measuring heart rate and sounding an alarm if the heart rate drops below the set level.

Full-Tilt Digital Compass with Bearing Memory: A powerful navigational system with integrated digital compass that remains accurate regardless of inclination, a diving industry first. You can set a bearing to navigate to and from a desired destination both on the surface and underwater. Galileo keeps you on course with arrows and guides if you stray. It even displays markers at various degrees for square, triangular or reciprocal courses. Galileo stores the set bearings in the dive profile so you can review them on your PC after download. Extra-large Dot Matrix Display and Huge Memory: View pictures and charts during the dive; store images of dive sites and upload tables or messages for easy communication. Enjoy details like the dive profile including a complete list of deco stop times. You can even observe the tissue loading status. Review depth, temperature and heart rate profiles after the dive directly on Galileo’s on-board log book. Galileo stores the most recent 100 hours of diving in a 4-second sampling rate for download to your PC. Upgrade your computer with new functions and features downloaded from our web site: Another exclusive technological achievement by UWATEC. You may want an expanded software package or simply want to add a new language. Galileo Sol can be reprogrammed as your diving and technology evolve. See what you want when you want by choosing one of the 3 pre-configured screen display modes: LIGHT mode shows the most important information in the biggest possible figures. FULL display gives you everything at once. CLASSIC mode is the perfect balance between the two. Alarms and warnings displayed in text in the language of choice: You will never misunderstand an essential beep underwater because Galileo spells it out. You decide. Warnings can be visual, audible or both. Galileo’s user interface is as easy to use, program and view as a cell phone: Menus, settings and functions are in your language of choice. Buttons are labeled and change when the function changes. Navigating through the various menus is so intuitive, you may be tempted not to read the manual—but please do! You can truly personalize your Galileo: Enter your owner and emergency information. The first two lines are displayed on the main surface screen and an additional 18 lines are in a dedicated menu. Input emergency contacts and dive insurance numbers, plus any allergies or medical conditions. It will all be automatically accessible by rescuers should an accident occur, so they can better assist you. Oil filled technology: Allows us to make a slim designed computer with an extra-large rectangular display. Oil filling also gives us more technological freedom and is the reason we are the only dive computer on the market rated to a depth of 330 meters per EN13319 standards. User-replaceable battery: The separate air-filled battery compartment makes it easier for you to replace the battery yourself. It can even be done between repetitive dives without affecting the saturation information. Infrared technology and PC download capability: Lets you continue your dive experience once you get out of the water. You can log, organise, analyse and print details of each dive and even compare your dive profile to your buddy’s. Predictive Multi Gas (Available as upgrade): Allows you to enjoy the full benefits of carrying high oxygen concentration mixes in addition to your main breathing gas. Our algorithm predicts the switch to the new mix and includes it in the deco calculation plus prompts you to use it at the correct depth. If you don’t switch, Galileo adapts accordingly. You can get an overview of decompression calculations for several combinations of gases summarized on one screen at the push of a button. Exclusive Heart Rate Monitoring System (Available as upgrade): Galileo is the first and only dive computer to have an integrated heart rate monitor, incorporating the heartbeat into the workload, and then tailoring the decompression calculations to your dive. UWATEC has teamed with Polar, world leader in heart rate monitoring instruments, to bring you this innovative technology. Each diver is unique and so is our core physiology. Body responses during a dive are not the same. With the heart rate monitor Galileo Sol is able to further sense your efforts and adapt itself to reflect the condition your body is reporting. You get the safest no-stop and decompression stop calculations, even under the most demanding circumstances. |

Tune-Up Your Regulator!
You already have the new Mares valves, available on the market since the beginning of 2009 –now there is the new Superflex hoses that offer greater comfort, safety and duration. For those of you who would like to improve your „old“ Mares Regulator can now equip them with the new super-flexible hoses . To learn all about the advantages of this tuning, please read on:
Give yourself and your regulator a really special present! In concomitance with the start of the season, Mares increases their offer of medium pressure hoses with the new Superflex hose to improve your equipment. So let’s let the characteristics speak for themselves:
- The Superflex hoses are 30% lighter than the traditional hoses in rubber. Therefore the mouthpiece is much more comfortable. And they reduce the weight that you have to carry around.
- The Superflex hoses are much more flexible compared to the more bulky rubber ones. Using individual hoses for the inflator and for the octopus are in this way made much easier.
- The Superflex hoses have a considerably greater mechanical resistance. The external nylon netting is resistant to scratches and abrasions. With Superflex decreases in weight are things of the past.
- The Superflex hoses cannot be deformed as is the case with those in rubber. You can easily tie a knot in the hose without damaging the structure of the material or the shape. Three layers (Nylon, PET and PU) have made the impossible possible!
- If you leave the knot in the hose, the air still continues to flow unobstructed. A rubber hose in this condition would not allow the air to pass or, more exactly, would allow only a small quantity to pass.
- The Superflex hoses are more resistant to atmospheric agents and UV rays compared to those in rubber.

Stylish yet functional timepieces designed to guide deeper, higher and further through the elements – Suunto Elementum
Suunto, the world’s leading designer of sports precision instruments has unveiled Suunto Elementum – an exclusive collection of superbly crafted timepieces exclusively manufactured in Finland. These stylish, urban-inspired watches combine excellent craftsmanship with precision digital technology in a unique coalescence of function and form.
The collection consists of three watches, Elementum Aqua, Elementum Terra and Elementum Ventus, specifically designed for Diving, Mountaineering and Sailing. The names directly translate to Water, Earth and Wind, which are the three elements that surround the activities Suunto Elementum is inspired by and designed to help navigate through.
“We are entering a new era in Suunto’s history with a collection of premium digital sports watches, which reflects our deep knowledge in diving, mountaineering and sailing. This expansion derives from a unique insight into the other, more urban, part of athletes’ lives; an understanding that allows us to develop watches that are modern and stylish, yet still very functional, for all of life’s situations.” says Juha Pinomaa, President of Suunto.
“Suunto has established itself as the leading outdoor watch brand in the sports retail channel. We are seeing an increasing interest and demand for functional sports watches in the watch retail channel as well, and consumers expect to find our products there. The Suunto Elementum collection has been developed exclusively for this channel.”
The Aqua detects when the user enters the water and starts all the functions and measurements for an enjoyable dive such as depth, max depth, dive time, surface time and water temperature. Ideal for any lifestyle that combines urban life with submerged pleasure.
The Terra is equipped with all the essentials for survival in the outdoors, such as an altimeter for altitude measurement, barometer for easy prediction of weather changes and compass for navigation. It provides information that makes for outdoor exploration with the utmost confidence.
The Ventus is a highly sophisticated yet elegant sailing timepiece with impressive features that allow for predictions of upcoming weather, an advanced compass for navigation and a sailing timer for the perfect race start. These make it a must-have extension to one’s on-board equipment.
Suunto Elementum will be available in summer 2009 in USA, Italy and Sweden and in fall 2009 in Finland, Argentina, Greece, Japan and Singapore.
