I concerti, quattro, il primo il 17 febbraio l’ultimo il 25 maggio, si terranno come sempre nel Teatro Sangiorgi, la seconda sala del Teatro Massimo Bellini, in via Sangiuliano 233; tutti il venerdi pomeriggio alle 18, tutti a ingresso gratuito.

Si comincia dunque venerdi 17 febbraio con il concerto di Percussio Mundi, formazione di percussioni diretta da Giovanni Caruso. In programma musiche di Sollima, Sima, Piazzolla, Cirone e dello stesso Caruso.

Percussio Mundi è un complesso orchestrale composto da allievi ed ex allievi dell’Istituto Bellini: Flavia La Perna, Rosario Gioeni, Alessandro La Spina, Giuseppe Condorelli, Antonino Piscitello, Davide Santonocito, Luca Zarbano, Andrea Zito, Orazio Anastasi, Davide Pennisi, Simone Puglisi.

Qualche nota sui brani:

Millennium bug è stato scritto dal compositore siciliano Giovanni Sollima nel 1999, anno in cui antiche leggende e nuovi eventi avrebbero contrassegnato il passaggio fra il secondo ed il terzo millennio; tra i nuovi eventi temuti, il baco del millennio che,  insediatosi dentro i cavi dei computer, si diceva avrebbe divorato hard disc e gli stessi cavi,  lasciando la popolazione umana senza supporti informatici!! Ascoltando il brano si intravvede ogni tanto questo bruco che insidioso si muove fra una melodia ed un ritmo. Il brano è scritto per quartetto e la caratteristica tecnica sta nel fatto che in tutti e cinque i pezzi che lo compongono i quattro esecutori sono quasi sempre ammassati in uno o nell’altro strumento.

Drum in square, in stile pop, è un brano per due gruppi di batterie; l’autore lo ha scritto dopo il duetto fatto con il grande batterista Tullio De Piscopo, del quale emergono chiari i tratti stilistici; vi si susseguono unisoni, “botta e risposta” e improvvisazioni.

The blues things è un esempio di come un brano che forse era pensato per grande orchestra jazz può diventare un arrangiamento per quartetto di marimbe, senza per questo ridurre le emozioni e il sapore della musica nera. I quattro esecutori si scambiano i temi e si lanciano insieme in un refrain degno della Count Basie orchestra.

Music for cheers. Percussionista di solito non si diventa ma si nasce, manifestando fin da piccolo le attitudini e la passione per il ritmo, percuotendo qualsiasi superficie; quello che accade in questo brano è ciò che, visto con animo ludico, viene poi elaborato e trasmesso al pubblico, “addizionato” delle conoscenze tecniche ormai consolidate nel corso degli studi di musica, di stili i più disparati.

Libertango è  uno dei brani di Piazzolla più suonati al mondo; qui viene trascritto per ensemble di percussioni in una versione molto variegata ed intervallata da Assoli e improvvisazioni.

4/4 for four, brano scritto per quartetto di percussioni e ampliato per grande ensemble, è ricco di momenti esplosivi e frasi scomposte fra le diverse parti.

Gli altri concerti si terranno il 16 marzo (Italian Brass Band), il 27 aprile (Orchestra Giovanile Bellini con la partecipazione dei professori dell’Orchestra del Teatro Massimo Bellini) e il 25 maggio (Jazz Lab Ensemble).

L’OPERA E L’ALLESTIMENTO.Tosca, melodramma in tre atti, tratto dall’omonimo dramma diVictorien Sardou, fu scritta da Puccini tra il 1898 e il 1899 su libretto dei “soliti” Giuseppe Giacosae Luigi Illica. La prima andò in scena al Teatro Costanzi di Roma il 14 gennaio del 1900 con grande successo e gradimento del pubblico, anche se la critica restò divisa e perplessa per anni. Ma Tosca, assieme a La bohéme, è una delle opere più popolari e apprezzate di Puccini; basti pensare che nei suoi primi due anni fu rappresentata in quarantatre teatri di tutta Europa e ancora oggi risulta tra le opere più rappresentate, quella che mobilita melomani e appassionati ma anche chi non frequenta regolarmente i teatri d’opera.

Per l’allestimento proposto dal “Bellini”, tradizionale e “realistico” nell’ambientazione, il regista catanese Giovanni Anfuso scrive nelle sue “note”: “Il percorso di questa messa in scena vuole scarnificare da tutte le sovrastrutture, e le incrostazioni, personaggi fin troppo familiari per il pubblico. L’unico scopo è di ricostruire un filo rosso e, in questo coacervo di sentimenti e di emozioni, delineare personaggi che si stagliano, positivi o negativi, offrendo il tumultuoso battere del loro cuore”.
